Michael Lee Hill, 72, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 6, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born on October 3, 1952, in Temple, Texas, to Don and Peggy Hill, Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, and deep love for his family.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Donna Hill, of Council Bluffs; Sons, Bryan of Spokane, WA [Bria], and Brandon Hill of Council Bluffs; his cherished granddaughter, Ariana Hill of Spokane, WA, sisters, Judith Hill and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Don & Anita Hill, Peggy Jean Hill and brother, Don Hill.
Michael and Donna’s love story began when they met while working in a hospital lab during Donna’s time at Bethany Nazarene College. They married just six months after their first date and built a life filled with love, laughter, and partnership.
Michael retired early from the U.S. Postal Service in 1995 to dedicate himself to raising his sons, allowing Donna to focus on her business, which required frequent travel. His devotion to his family was unmatched, and he used his many talents—including music, sports, crafts, and an encyclopedic general knowledge—to connect with and enrich the lives of his children.
Known for his sharp humor, Michael had a unique ability to make people laugh, whether they were close friends or strangers in a checkout line. He was generous with his time and skills, often helping others quietly and without seeking recognition.
A man of many talents, Michael was deeply involved in puppetry during the 1980s, creating and performing with a team at local churches. He even learned to sew to craft his own Muppet-style puppets, embracing every aspect of the art form with creativity and dedication. His curiosity and determination led him to tackle countless projects throughout his life, always leaving behind evidence of his ingenuity and heart.
In accordance with Michael’s wishes, no services are planned at this time.
Michael’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him and them through his journey. Those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to share a kind word, a joke, or a helping hand in his spirit.
