Kevin Douglas Peterson

Kevin D. Peterson, aged 61, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska.

Kevin was born on December 2, 1963 in Shenandoah, Iowa. As a child, his family moved to Valley, Nebraska and there he attended Valley public schools. On December 6, 1989, he married the love of his life Cathy Samson. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter and the joy of raising their four children: James, Brian, Nicole and Jonathan. 

Kevin’s love of horses led him to work at the Aksarben race track in Omaha and Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. Beyond the racetracks, Kevin built a career with Continental Fire Sprinklers in Omaha and Magnus Farley in Fremont, Nebraska where his warm personality and quick wit made him a friend to everyone he met. An adventurer at heart, Kevin found joy in his motorcycle and traveling to horse tracks whenever he got the chance. You could often hear him telling stories of his trips to Sturgis, New York, Chicago, Arkansas, and Florida. Kevin’s enormous personality, love of family and passion for life touched everyone around him.

He is preceded in death by his mother Joan and his brother Mike. Kevin’s memory lives on in the hearts of his wife Cathy; children James (Heather) Samson, Brian Samson, Nicole Newman and Jonathan (Laura) Samson; his sister Michelle (Bill) Hay; his brother Kraig (Stacy) Peterson; nieces Bridget, Claire, Meagan, Cambrie, and Courtney; and his beloved grandchildren, including Katarina, William, Alexander, Kelsey, Brianna, Megan, Wesley, LJ, Sawyer and Emma.

Though his absence leaves an irreplaceable void, Kevin’s vibrant spirit and the memories he created will be cherished forever.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 1 PM at Christensen Field in Fremont, Nebraska. Food and drinks will be served.
