Gwendolyn Mae Payne

September 14, 1929 — January 28, 2025

Omaha

Gwendolyn M. Payne was reunited with her husband and love of her life, Dale Payne, on January 28, 2025 in Omaha, NE.

Gwen was born on September 14, 1929 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert F. Bowman and Shirley (Miller) Blackard. She was an avid crocheter, sewer and book reader. She could crochet anything you wanted, including beautiful dolls and even football player dolls. The dresses she created for her granddaughters and great-granddaughters were absolutely amazing. And of course, her children were also recipients of her sewing talents from downsizing hand-me-downs, upsizing clothes as we grew and the greatest authentic looking Halloween costumes a kid could want.

Gwen and Dale loved to travel across the country, and their three oldest children gave them many reasons to travel from visiting them at new duty stations, graduating from boot camp, and grand babies. And we will never forget all of the trips to Las Vegas and all of the casino stops in between.

Gwen is survived by her four children; sons Pete (Vivian) Payne, Farrel (Sandi) Payne, and Thomas Payne, and her daughter Deb (Sandy) Payne. Her four grandchildren; Jonathon Payne, Paula Husovsky, Joshua (Sara) Payne, Andrew (Mandy) Tuff and her grand dog, that was her little sweetheart, Lilly Mae Payne. She had eight great-grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers Larry Bowman, Robert Bowman and Gary Bowman, along with her sisters Maxine Vance, Doris Gray and Rita Straw.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Payne, who passed 1/24/2017, her mother and father, brother David Bowman and sisters Shirley Joan Bruce and Marilyn Young.

A joint memorial for Gwen and Dale will be held at a date yet to be determined.
